Getting There
For guests travelling from Australia, Palermo is usually reached with one or two connections through hubs such as Dubai, Doha, Istanbul, Rome or Milan. Palermo's main airport is Falcone Borsellino Airport (PMO), and while there are no direct flights from Australia, you may find better fares by comparing flights into Palermo with flights to Rome or Milan followed by a domestic connection. We recommend arriving one or two days before the wedding to recover from the journey and allow for any travel delays.
We recommend staying in or near Palermo’s historic centre, particularly around Politeama, Teatro Massimo, Kalsa or Via Roma. These areas offer a great selection of hotels, restaurants and cafés and make it easy to explore many of Palermo’s main attractions on foot. We will share our recommended hotels and any wedding transport arrangements closer to the date.
Accommodation
Central Palermo is best explored on foot, although buses, taxis and rideshare-style services are also available. The historic streets can be busy and parking is often limited, so hiring a car is generally unnecessary unless you are planning to explore other parts of Sicily. Comfortable shoes are highly recommended for Palermo’s cobbled streets.
Getting Around Palermo
For those extending their trip, Palermo is a wonderful base for exploring Sicily. Popular nearby destinations include Monreale, Cefalù, Scopello and the Zingaro Nature Reserve. Guests travelling farther around the island may prefer to hire a car, while larger cities and towns can also be reached by train or bus.

September is a beautiful time to visit Palermo, with typically warm days and pleasant evenings. Light, breathable clothing is recommended, along with a jacket or wrap for later in the evening. Don’t forget sunscreen, sunglasses and comfortable walking shoes.
From Palermo Airport
Palermo Airport is approximately 30 kilometres from the city centre. Guests can travel into Palermo by train, airport bus, taxi or pre-arranged private transfer. The train and bus generally take around 45–55 minutes, while taxis and private transfers are usually faster depending on traffic.
